Recently many large corporations have announced that they will be switching from localized email clients and networks to free web based mail furnished by companies such as Google and Yahoo. For most of these firms this is viewed as a cost cutting measure. In fact many municipalities are opting to use free web based email. Unfortunately when using a free web based email the ability to recover accidentally deleted emails is extremely limited.
These email services place deleted mails temporarily into a recycle or trash bin. But that folder has a definitive time limit and after that time has passed the accidentally deleted email is gone forever. In contrast email recovery from a local computer or controlled network using such popular e-mail clients as Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express allow for recovery of lost damaged or deleted emails almost indefinitely. Another major factor in this regard is obviously security. It is impossible to vouch for the security of email storage on huge Internet portals such as Yahoo or AOL. At least when you are storing your emails on your personal computer you are in control of firewalls and other security measures.
